Education: Private vs. Public
    Education plays an important role in society. The whole world tries to improve its educational system as much as possible. “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another” (Chesterton).Another wonderful opinion is “Education is more than a luxury; it is a responsibility that society owes to itself” (Cook). Therefore, the majority of parents try to figure out the best way for their children to get ahead in life. Parents often wonder whether their children can have a better education in public school or private school. Each system has advantages and disadvantages.  However, most people think private schools are better than public schools because of high academic standards, better facilities and safe environments.
In order to have an overall view about education, we must look back at how the history of education affects our lives. In the United States, both public and private educations have a long history according to the Applied Research Center. In 1647, the first law of education was established and the first public high school was instituted in 1820. In the early 19th century, the first private schools were found by Catholic priests in Louisiana and Florida (Garrett-Hatfield). There are some things in common between private schools and public schools. Both of them have athletic programs, have their own dress codes and they try to provide knowledge for students for their lifetime. However, they also have different ways to run the schools. Public school systems are supported by a combination of local, state, and federal government funding. Admission to individual public schools is usually based on residency. On the other hand, private schools in the United States include parochial schools, non-profit independent schools, and for-profit private schools.
