My Job at the Covelli Center
It was never boring or monotaneous working at a special event venue because there was always a different type of show. Along with variety, there are a lot of advantages and benefits to working at the Covelli Center. I hold a couple of positions at the center so I am always busy and staying active at work. I started as a concession stand bartender and moved up to V.I.P. room waitress and also am a stagehand and special guest bartender. I like being able to work with the special guests and almost feel starstruck if it is a famous band or star. I have watched the center grow and expand over the past six years and it is now very well known.
One of the things I love about my job is the variety of events and the different styles of shows. We have hockey every year when it is in season, and comedy shows, and specialty shows, and concerts of all types. I especially love when the circus comes to town and I get to play with the animals backstage. One time, about two years ago, I got to give a baby elephant a bottle and a bath. Bathing the elephant was an amazing experience I will never forget. Sometimes the hockey and Disney on Ice shows can get a bit chilly so I make sure to wear layers. I also enjoyed meeting Jeff Dunham, and getting autographed pictures is always a plus. I never know what they are going to schedule next and it makes for a great work environment.
Over the past six years I have held almost every position available at the Covelli Center and each one has it’s own set of tasks. When running a concession bar I have small snacks and a couple types of beer to keep stocked. Only at the main bar do they serve mix drinks and liquor, and the rest of the stands only offer beer and pop. When I am a V.I.P. waitress and a special guest bartender I get to meet the...
