Under the Big Lights
High School was a blur. It came and went by so quick, leaving fond memories and highlights of my life. Even though I only played football my senior year, it was an unforgettable experience and it changed my life drastically. Being able to play under those big lights in front of hundreds and hundreds of people was an honor. So much pressure rose as the time ticked down and the crowd stomped their feet waiting in anticipation for a Wolverine touchdown. Butterflies grew in my stomach as I waited for the quarterbacks signal and stared the defensive back down. Whether it was blocking my defender or running a deep route for a leaping catch in the end-zone, I always gave it my all. Playing football taught me loyalty, integrity, and leadership. Although high school is over and I hardly see the friends I once had, I will never forget my brothers that shed blood, sweat, and tears with me under those Friday Night Lights.
Entering high school, I was this tiny, scrawny freshman. I loved sports and played football since I was little, but I knew I had no chance considering how small I was. I decided to join and play basketball only. I was put on Junior-Varsity as a freshman and this level of basketball was faster and tougher. We were a young team on Junior-Varsity, and it showed out on the court. We lost mostly all of our games and had a rough season. The following year, I was moved up to Varsity. I was known around school as this good basketball player and somehow I got stuck with the nickname Kobe. So when the season came around I found out I was going to be one of the starting five. I was real nervous when I heard this because I was only a sophomore, and my coach had unreal expectations of me. The season flew by and it seemed as if we lost every game. We had another horrible season, but it didn’t mean much to me since I was only a sophomore. After that season is when I realized that my whole life I was never on a winning team.
