Hamlet Compare and Contrast the Book and the Movie
After watching the Ethan Hawke version of hamlet and reading the play in class I concluded that there was many differences and was similar at some part. The movie was good but was very different than the play. There are a lot of differences but I will write a couple of them.
First of all in the movie the setting was in a modern era in 2000. Then in the play it was in the old days around the 1600's. Then the movie it was in a Hotel called Elsinore and the play it was in a castle. The other movie we saw in the beginning was mostly like the play since it took place in a Castle. The movie was mostly about the corporate world since the suppose king was the head CEO of his company. Then in the movie they found out about the ghost on a security camera and then confronted it instead of walking around and finding it. Then in the movie Horatio had a girlfriend named Marcella who saw the ghost on the security camera instead of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Then in the movie when Ophelia died and they buried her and Laeretes and Hamlet started to push each other down a hill instead of fighting in Ophelia's grave. Then Ophelia drowned in a shallow fountain and in the play she drowned in a lake. Then in the movie instead of using swords they used guns. Then when Polonius was hiding he hid in a closet instead of in the tapestry. Then when Hamlet was in his mom's room he shot Polonius in the eye and then Polonius came out the closet and then died. Polonius was shot instead of stabbed. Then I noticed that instead of having a messenger it was a fax machine.
The movie was high-tech because instead of having a play he made a movie without words and they was watching Claudius reaction in the theater. Then Ophelia wore a wire so Claudius and Polonius could hear what Hamlet was saying.
Then when Claudius sent Hamlet to England they took a plane instead of taking a boat. Then Hamlet changed the e-mail...
