A boy named, Brian Robeson, who was a thirteen year old on his way to visit his dad for the summer was suddenly in a plane crash because his pilot had a heart attack while they were in the air. The plane landed in a Lake in the Canadian wilderness. The pilot died and Brian was left alone to survive until someone rescued him. He was already emotionally a wreck because his parents recently divorced and he was holding a “secret” deep inside of him.
Brian was scared and depressed. He cried at first and then realized that he would have to figure out a way to survive. He remembers something his English teacher said to them in class, which is to stay positive and motivated and that you are your most valuable asset. After he thought about those words, he realized that the only thing he had was a hatchet attached to his belt that his mom gave him as a present for his trip to his dad’s in the Canadian wilderness for the summer. He started gathering items to build a shelter and used his hatchet to build a fire and to make a spear to catch fish and “fool birds” to cook over the fire to eat.
After going through many emotions and his lowest point where he tried to kill himself, Brian changed his outlook and started thinking more like a man instead of a boy and became very proud of himself for all of the accomplishments he was making to be able to survive in the woods for days. Suddenly he comes across the plane and finds a survival kit in it with all the things to make it easier to survive in an emergency. He finds a riffle which he rejected because he decided it takes away from the natural existence and understanding of how nature works. Brian was rescued from a plane flying low and heard the signal, realizing that it could be the boy the search team had been looking for.
