Windshield survey
Lathrop, California

Clinical Educational Experience: Windshield Survey of the community of Lathrop California
Boundaries, Housing, and Zoning
Lathrop is located approximately 58 miles south of Sacramento and 47 miles northeast of San Jose along Interstate Highway 5. The City is within a -30 to 45 minute of Tracy, Manteca, Stockton, Lodi, Modesto, Livermore, and Pleasanton. Lathrop inhabits an area of approximately 16.7 square miles and has a, population of 18,063. Three of the City’s largest developments include River Islands Community, Mossdale Village Community, and Central Lathrop Community. These communities are separated by roads. My participants live in the Central Lathrop Community also known as “old Lathrop.” The boundaries that form Central Lathrop are from Louise Ave, 5th Street, Lathrop Road and Harlan Road. In the Central Lathrop Community the homes were built between 1959 and 1980’s. In this community the houses all have front yards and backyards. There is sufficient spacing between homes for privacy. All homes appear to have heating, plumbing, and cooling. Majority of the homes are well kept with groomed landscaped lawns.
Open space
Central Lathrop has few open spaces which are fields of dirt. It appears that these open spaces are well kept and groomed by the local city landscapers. During my survey the open space is not being used. These area of open space appear to be safe. The open spaces were kept up and did not appear to be unattractive to the community surrounding homes.
Commons
When assessing for common areas in the Central Lathrop community there is a Teen Center with a skate park which is utilized by local teenagers during the day and because it has sports lights many teenagers use the skate park into the evening hours. The teen center has a facility where teens can play video games and activities such as ping pong. There is a Starbucks which is always filled with people all ages whether it’s the drive...
