Healthcare Educational Resources Paper
The purpose of this essay is to identify assistive technologies that are available for people with special needs in the three states that we chose to compare and contrast as a team. In addition, different types of technologies available to meet the needs of our clients, as well as what healthcare educational resources are available to special needs populations within these states. Besides, investigate if these states provide a comprehensive database of services and technologies available for special needs population as well as, what are some of the challenges that human services professional faces when they implement technology in their daily basis. We will inform about what additional assistive technology is available that is not currently used in our three selected states and how do special needs populations access services in these states.
It is important that as a society members and human service professionals know our laws, as in the case of The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, this law was passed by the United States Congress, and signed by President George Bush. The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal civil right that states that any individual with a disability, if it is shown or not, should receive equal treatment when pursuing jobs, goods, services and other opportunities. In addition, the ADA prohibits discrimination based on disabilities, race, ethnic, or sex. Employers should provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities, and the building should have accommodations to the public as well. However, in some states employers and business have managed to discriminate against people with disabilities. (ADA.gov, 2015).
