The health and wellness of a person’s being is very important. Maintaining an overall healthy state is essential for everyday life. Your health is crucial in every aspect you look at, anywhere from what you eat in the morning to how you exercise and the way you feel every day. There are many factors that contribute to overall wellness and can make you feel 100 times better or like you’re dragging the floor. Some of the most important factors that can help you in the long run are: controlling everyday stress, avoiding substance use and abuse, and overall physical fitness. These are crucial in order to deal with everyday life and avoid fatigue and be energetic throughout the day. I believe that some people let one or all of these things get over the limit and overtake their lives.
The first one I am going to discuss is controlling everyday stress in our lives and how it can overrun our life. Stress is everywhere around us and it can be good or it can be bad, it depends on how we take it in. Stress is caused by a stressor which is a physical or psychological event, condition, or demand that triggers stress. A positive stressor is called eustress which enhances physical and mental functioning which can feel exciting or motivating. Negative stress is called distress and it can cause emotional pain, anxiety, or injury. “Distress can lead to physical symptoms including headaches, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, and problems sleeping.”(Mayo Clinic) I know this is true because in times I have been stressed out about something I usually cannot sleep due to worrying about it and my stomach is usually knotted up and I lose my appetite. I believe that stress pushes people to do things that they wouldn’t usually turn to for help and can get them in trouble. “Stress also becomes harmful when people use alcohol, tobacco, or drugs to try and relieve their stress.”(Mayo Clinic) I know as a student, stress is a big factor and you have to...
