English Writing ENW2/315109 Sarah Mae Silva Unit 4: Poetry Activity 1: Writer's Notebook – your experience of poetry. Even though I have always been fond of reading books (particularly novels, detective fiction and biographies), I have never been interested in reading poetry. I do not in any way dislike or hate it, but it is more the reason that I have never made an effort in reading enough of it. Another reason could be that it is because I struggle with understanding the language of some works of poetry (especially those of the epic or dramatic genre). I find that the language of most poems can be difficult because it is written in a different or unfamiliar manner, not in a casual, everyday manner. I think it is a good thing that I am doing this unit on poetry, because I would actually like to widen my knowledge on the topic; I have also learned through this unit, that studying poetry can enhance your writing skills, make you think clearer about other works of writing and improve your reading comprehension skills, so I am very much obliged to adapt and sharpen up on these skills.
Activity 2: Writer's Notebook – Analysis. 3. a) The speaker did take the road which he thought was less traveled, even though in the second stanza of the poem, he came to realise that both of the paths were almost about the same. Based on his judgments of how worn the leaves on each path were or how much traffic was passing, he realised that they were not 'exactly the same' but not 'exactly different' either. Yes b) Quite high; the third stanza discusses the speaker's beliefs that there are possible differences between the two roads. He noticed that there were fresh leaves which had fallen on both roads that not been walked on. He then said that maybe he would come back and walk the first road another time, but he doubted that this would be possible because life is very unpredictable and time is very short. Indeed c) This poem does represent a scenario that can happen in anyone's life...
