The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a movie based on the book written by Douglas Adams, is a light hearted, science fiction adventure that addresses the controversial battles regarding spirituality, moral fiber, scientific discovery and other highly explosive issues that we, as human beings seem to always be tangled up in.
Without prejudice or preference, this movie brings the viewer a fresh and humorous look at society and humanity’s ever-changing pursuit of knowledge and the answers to life’s biggest mysteries. It then offers up the most outrageous, mind boggling, impossible scenarios, explaining everything and nothing in unison. This insanely, intelligent piece of pure fiction challenges the intellect, common sense, imagination, comprehension, and sense of humor.
The movie starts on Earth, in the home of Arthur Dent, on the day bulldozers arrive to tear down his home. Distracted from his protest by his friend and soon to be traveling companion, Ford Prefect, Dent is soon transported through space with only his friend Ford, a towel, and the Hitch Hikers guide. The movie is jam packed with snide references to big controversial issues, popular culture references, and parodies of current events. The movie makes fun of the things we seem to focus on the most, showing viewers the true nature of each subject, and just how trivial it is in the grand scheme of things. This movie in essence is telling us to focus on the important issues, and start relaxing.
In the Hitch Hikers Guide, true science fantasy and outrageous comedy come together, simply to entertain the viewer. In all honesty, the movie contains no hidden pearls of wisdom, no underlying lessons of right or wrong, no moral of the story, no metaphors for life’s puzzles, or anything that claims to be...
