How to Make and Prepare Horseshoes
If I was to ask you what are Horseshoes, you most likely would say they are shoes that you place on a horses hooves or you might say it is a u-shaped lucky charm, but what many people don’t know it is a type of sandwich. The Horseshoe sandwich was first made by Steve Tomko at the Leland Hotel in Springfield, IL in 1928. Steve Tomko later took the recipe to Waynes Red Coach Inn, where it is still served through the restaurant now also serves Godfather’s Pizza. Darcy’s Pint also located in Springfield sells award winning horseshoes.
My family picked up our version of the horseshoe while we where in Illinois. The base part of the sandwich needs some bread , followed by some type of meat such as hamburger, ham, deep fried pork tenderloin, fried chicken breast or fried fish, then some type of potato such as fries, or hash browns, to top everything off you use some type of liquid cheese sauce, cheddar is the most favorite. You also need a toaster, deep fryer, frying pan, sauce pan, or grill to cook most of these steps. A slotted spoon , paper towels, ladle, spatula, and tongs also can be used to complete these steps.
To start take your bread and toast both sides, then place toasted bread on a plate. While toasting your bread, place your meat in a frying pan and cook till done. Also you can start deep frying your potato choice till they are golden brown. Once they are brown take the potatoes out of the grease and place them on a paper towels to drain . When the meat is cooked to your desired state, place the meat on top of the toasted bread. Next place your potatoes on top of the meat in any way you want. Finally top everything on the plate with the liquid cheese by using the ladle. If you want you can season it if needed or desired it. The end result should have the bread on the bottom, then the meat. After that it should be the fries and topping it all, should be the cheese.
