Introduction
In today’s society, businesses are always looking for ways to make improvements in how they do business. Businesses want to find ways that will cut back on costs and ensure that proper safety measures are being implemented. To do this Huffman Trucking is looking to come up with a plan to help with their maintenance program.
Company Information
Huffman Trucking is a privately owned transportation company that has been in business for 60 years and has grown into a multi-million-dollar company with over 1,400 employees and hundreds of vehicles. With hubs located in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cleveland and Bayonne (New Jersey), Huffman's employees are expected to maintain explicit communication among coworkers and clients. With a mission to be "a profitable, growing, adaptive company in an intensively competitive logistical services business environment,” Huffman Trucking should leverage the technology to provide the best customer service and business efficiencies possible.
Problem Statement
Huffman Trucking needs a better system to track the maintenance on their trucking fleet of tractors, trailer and the roll-on/roll-offs, every 25,000 miles, while increasing the stops available between each maintenance overhaul.
The fleet has to undergo periodic maintenance. In order to increase their stops between maintenance and better direct them to each stop, the drivers need a system or device for getting directions in unfamiliar local streets from the dispatcher or some other source. The dispatch system needs to try to move the truck in the general direction of the maintenance facility(s).
Requirements
Upper Management, including CEO and President Kristen Huffman would require a system for real time tracking of the trucks by zones within the country and a greater efficiency of routing trucks to pickups...
