Importance of Physics
Physics is the study of matter, energy and interactions. It plays important roles in future progress of humankind. Many of the tools on which the advances of science and technology depend are direct product of physics.
We use X-rays, radioisotope and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging in hospitals. In addition, lasers and electron microscopes depend on advance made in physics. We couldn’t build a computer without knowledge of mechanics, which is a kind of physics.
Physics is important to human’s life because it’s used in lots of housework including food cooking and clothes cleaning. Physics is also used in watching TV. Physics has also played an important role in health, economic development, education, energy and the environment.
Physics has had an increasingly important impact on the average person’s daily life. For example, Physicists played an essential role in the development of fiber optics, hologram, the World Wide Web (WWW) and a lot more.
I am going to talk about fiber optics because a Hong Kong physicist invented it. It’s a flexible, transparent fiber and it’s slightly thicker than a human hair. It is a great invention for computer users because it provides high-speed data and voice transmission networks.
Physicists love simplicity. They are constantly striving to find the most fundamental ideas that can be used to describe even the most complex of phenomena. For example, Newton found that only a very small number of concepts could be used to describe just about the entire mechanical world - from steam engines to the motion of the planets. Not only is this beautiful, it's downright amazing!
