Jack Kingston is currently the Representative for the 1st district of Georgia. This district consists of 25 counties. According to the US House of Representatives, those counties include: “Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Berrien, Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Cook, Echols, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Lanier, Liberty, Long, Lowndes, McIntosh, Pierce, Telfair, Ware, Wayne, and Wheeler” (para. 2). Before serving as the Representative he served as a “member of the Georgia state house of representatives” from 1985 until 1993. In 1993 he was elected to serve for the 1st district of Georgia. He has served as the Representative for the past 16 years. In 2008 was the last election when he was elected into his ninth term into office. There are a few military bases included in this district; Fort Stewart (Liberty County), Hunter Army Airfield (Chatham County), Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base (Camden County), and Moody Air Force Base (Lowndes County). Because of these military bases being near and dear to Congressman Kingston and the district, he is on different committees that support the military and other important issues (US House of Representatives, n.d.).
Congressman Kingston is involved in many committees that help the district along with the nation. The Subcommittee of Defense is the committee that I believe is best committee that Kingston is on that represents this district because of the military bases around. Kingston being on this committee shows how he cares about and supports our country and the troops that are fighting for our country. This committee also affects our nation as a whole with national defense. If I could place Congressman Kingston on a committee that I feel that would be more important to the district, I would place him on the Committee on Education and Labor.
