Study Abroad Short Essay (Japan)
There are several reasons that I’ve inquired the Temple Study Abroad program in Tokyo, Japan as well as my high expectations while there. In my opinion, every college student should experience studying abroad at least once during their college careers’. I’ve literally never received bad feedback from my friends that study abroad whether it is in Rome, China or Japan. Going to a different country in itself is eye-opening and gives you a different perspective as you experience lifestyles that are almost parallel to your own. I specifically chose Japan as the venue for this program because I feel like it’s an unpopular destination. For the most part, all of my buddies have gone to Rome or some part of Europe so I wanted to choose something unique. Although I’ve already been to South Korea twice, which I can’t imagine would differentiate much from Japan; I know that I’ll still experience a great deal. Subjectively, Japan is the most technologically advanced country in the world and I’m very tech-savvy so that’s a huge bonus for me. Since I’m still a sophomore in terms of the credits I hold, this is the perfect summer for this opportunity.
I think it’s a very humbling experience to see the way others live in different countries since it reminds me to count my blessings and to appreciate the way I’ve been able to live my life thus far. I expect to eat great food, absorb the culture in everyway, learn some Japanese, and to enjoy every experience with my best friend who I’ve convinced to apply with me. There’s honestly nothing that could ruin this experience since I’m so open-minded and prepared to learn new things everyday that I’m there. I’m can be flexible and adaptable whenever the situation requires me to do so. My best example would be transferring schools, seeing as I have been to three schools in three years.
