What is Just Simply Wrong?
Many people argue about things that they believe to be just simply wrong. While reading the article “Some Moral Minima”, Lenn Goodman argues this same topic. I do in fact agree with Lenn Goodman with the thought that some things just shouldn’t be done. In this paper, I will be talking about specific examples from the reading and those will be slavery and polygamy. I provide you with info on these topics as well as my personal opinion coming from a woman’s view. If someone feels that there isn’t anything wrong with these three topics, maybe they’ll feel differently after reading this paper.
When people think and talk about slavery, the majority of the time they only think about the slavery that took place that happened back in history. So many people are blind to the fact that slavery still exists. Well I’m here to tell you that it does still exist; the only difference is that it has a new name. The word slavery just sounds so bad and when someone here’s it, they think negative thoughts right away. When someone here’s human trafficking, if they’ve never heard it before, they’ll sit and wonder about what it could possibly be. I think people try and change the names of things because they realize and understand how wrong it is so they try and dress it up a bit to make it seem not as bad as it really is. “Slavery is the deepest exploitation, overriding subjecthood to make a person a tool for use”. (Goodman 2010) In my opinion, no matter how you dress it up and make it sound, slavery which is also known as human trafficking is wrong. At my job, everyone has to do online training that shows us how to recognize human trafficking. This training has to be renewed every year.
