Leadership is a complex debate that can be defined in many different ways. Through many factors such as position, personality, expertise, values, tasks, stress, environment, training etc. Leadership can change from person to person.
The aim of this paper is to analyze and critically evaluate Len Davis Owner/Director of Mitchell Building as well as discuss how I would lead differently and make a stronger impact on the followers and on the situation.
The paper has three sections. First I define leadership. Then I will introduce Len Davis owner/director of Mitchell building followed by an analysis and critical evaluation of his leadership style and impact this has on his employees/customers. The conclusion will tie the arguments together leading to my views on how I would lead the company differently and make a stronger impact on the employees and customers.
WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?
Leadership and what it truly means has been a hotly debated question and no doubt will continue. Leadership is a complex phenomenon involving the leader, the followers and the situation. Hughes, Ginnett and Curphy (2015). My views on leadership is “a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal” Northhouse(2010).
Leadership is both a science and an art, where being an expert on leadership doesn’t necessarily make you a good leader. In brief leadership is a complex and confusing argument with no right or wrong answer.
MITCHELL BUILDING AND ITS SITUATION.
Mitchell Building is a small domestic building company specializing in high end extensions/renovations that employees five full-time employees including one apprentice, and some twenty plus specialist sub-contractors on a job by job basis.
