Learning Environments and Developmental Domains

The classroom floorplan that I have designed is a preschool classroom in the public school system that services children between the ages of two and five. I have developed a positive setting that will ensure my students feel safe, comfortable, nurtured, and independent (FootprintsRecruiting 2013). This type of classroom will enhance their learning, build a unified environment and make it a pleasurable place for both student and teacher (McFarland-McDaniels 2012).
The learning atmosphere that I designed has many areas that support the physical
development of children. The two main areas for physical development are the music and
movement and block centers. Although all centers in a classroom help promote gross motor
skills or fine motor skills, these two centers incorporate both aspects at the same time. The
music and movement area provides children the ability to be energetic and noisy. This center
will contain materials that allow the children to act out songs that encourage physical movement
such as wiggling ones toes, feet, legs, arms, and fingers, clapping hands and doing stretches
(Childtime Childcare, Inc. 2015). When children get the opportunity to play in the block center
they are developing small muscles as the carry and place blocks together while building and their
large muscles when the block center contains materials such as hollow blocks that allow the
