Book review on Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
“Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.” (Nabokov 1.1.1). There are plenty of interesting sentences, lines, words and quotes that were very inspiring and profound. Nevertheless, personally for me this sentence caught my eye in the book. It is known that “Lolita” is about love between two people, and these words are perfectly shown us that even pronouncing her name makes feel Humbert fulfilled and totally satisfied. Even the feeling of saying her name. It is impossible to find anything that he doesn’t turn into a fetish object.
The novel Lolita is a masterwork by one of the famous Russian-American writer – Vladimir Nabokov. A huge number of literary critics think that “Lolita” shows us a new and fresh aspect of ethic between male and female and is of great literary importance for contemporary literature, improves and in the same time weakens the conventional human decency. On the other hand one can say that a lot of people argue that the novel bedecks incest and carnality with the help of literature. However, regardless of how many issues the book has given rise to, it is safe to say that Nabokov’s Lolita is a classic example of literature piece that describes inner world of individual. Due to the big amount of deep and profound details it is impossible for me to say what I like mostly, although I can safe say that the book is worth reading and I enjoyed it greatly.
