Promotional Video – Treatment
Our four-minute promotional video will follow a narrative approach where we will go along the story of a character, most probably a fisherman or anyone who works at sea and has experience in trading, fishing or pearling, and has been doing so for a long time. The video is a full day that starts from morning to dusk and many things will happen during that day, but the story will take the form of a journal, and the aged character will tell us his story on voice over. We are going to start it by an opening of a journal where we have a voice over of an older person speaking as they are writing in the journal the story behind the Sharjah Maritime museum and their life. All of the tools that the character will tell us about are in the SharjahMaritime Museum and anything that is interactive in the museum will be in the film. In other words, some objects in the museum will be put in real life situations to see how they function or how they were used, explained by the character itself. The structure of the movie will either follow the character’s story or we will divide the video into the different sections of the museum and will associate a story to each section.
The purpose of this structure is to bring back the context to all the objects we find in the museum and to bring them back to life. We also want to bring together all the traditional elements of the UAE life and to show that till today, these traditions are preserved.
The style and the sensation of the movie will be related to the feeling the sea gives us. Most often we feel that the sea is close to us but far at the same time… So we decided that the character would not show and thatthe style of the movie will be mysterious and the atmosphere will be soft. Colors will probably be in the scheme of sepias or with very little saturation so that it communicates that feeling of old and traditional. The sea and its noises are also soothing so this is the feeling we are aiming for...
