[Abstruct]There are four types of marriage in Austine’s Pride and Prejudice.They are Elizabeth and Darcy’s ,Jane and Bingley’s,Lydia and Wickham’s and the last one-Collins and Charlotte’s.As it is said that character determines destiny,I think character determines marriage.Among the four marriages,each of them can be associated with the characters’personalities.I am going to discuss the relation between marriages and characteristics in this essay,and I will mainly focus on Elizabeth and Darcy’s marriage and their characters.
Elizabeth ,the second daughter in the Bennet family,is the soul of Pride and Prejudice and one of the most well-known female characters in English literature.She reveals in her own person the very title qualities that she spots so easily in her sisters and their suitors,for she is the most intelligent and quick-witted .She has the ironic sense of humor.And she resists accepting all people uncritically,which differs from her elder sister,Jane.Elizabeth has a talent for recognizing most people's principal characteristics quickly.For exmple, she finds the foolishness of a lot of members in her family and quickly characterizes Lady Catherine de Bourgh as a control addict.And she defines her sister's suitor Charles Bingley as a simple and good-hearted young man. Nevertheless,she is kept thoroughly in her place.She was bamboozled by George Wickham.Besides,she showed herself little superior to the rest of female Meryton." So ,when Elizabeth begins to accept her own impressions, she makes her worst mistakes.
Elizabeth is a keen observer of other people.She finds her mother's silliness and determines not to making the same mistake as her father. This refusal, however, is itself a mistake.By trusting entirely to her own observations and her own initial assessments of people,Elizabeth ,with her sharp tongue and tendency to make hasty judgments,often threatens her...
