The objective of Programme and the immediate Strategic Objectives
The main objective of the WHO communicable disease surveillance and response programme is to support national capacity to early detect and respond to emerging infectious diseases outbreaks and events through strengthening core capacities required by the International Health Regulations (IHR) for surveillance, response, zoonosis, laboratory, infection prevention and control, points of entry and risk communication, strengthening national preparedness for emerging and outbreak-prone diseases and developing sustainable intersectoral collaboration at the country level.
Organizational Context

Under the guidance and supervision of the Technical Officer (ESR), NPO and the Administrative Assistant, the incumbent will handle overall secretarial and administrative areas of work relevant to the programme, such as: drafting and preparing of memos; providing secretarial/administrative support in the organization of and during meetings; preparing of reports to ensure all activities are well documented as well as administrative reports; establishing and maintaining filing systems, databases, etc.
Additional guidelines can be obtained from the relevant sections of the WHO Manual, WPR Policies and Procedures Handbook, WPR Secretaries' Handbook, World Health Assembly and Regional Committee for the Western Pacific resolutions, information circulars, specific instructions and administrative guidelines/mandates issued from time to time
