New Product Launch Marketing Plan
Pets have always been a part of American households, mostly cats and dogs. Recent trends in American culture have showed an increased awareness in dogs and cats wellbeing. Most state laws mandate the registration of pets and registration usually requires identification and medical shots. “Fifty-seven percent of all San Antonio households have pets, which is below the national average of 63 percent of U.S. households owning a pet” (Admin, 2008). In San Antonio alone there is an estimated 282,945 dogs living in households and 216,031 cats living in households. “There are 86.4 million cats and 78.2 million dogs owned in the US, you can see how many lost owned pets—not abandoned ones—make up the 5 to 7 million pets that end up in shelters each year” (Jenifer, 2012). A recent survey by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animalsof over 1000 households with pets across the US showed around 15 percent of all cats and dogs where lost at least once within the last 5 years, and only 90 percent of all lost pets where found. This lost 10 percent only makes up a small portion of the 5 to 7 million pets that show up in shelters each year. The Garmin Pet Monitor will not only target lost pets but all pet owners across the US and will work to lower the number of lost pets that never make it home.
