“It's hard to be humble, when you're as great as I am.”[i] This portrays the outlook of Muhammad Ali, who heroically stuck to his religious beliefs and stayed in his American homeland while other s sacrificed their lives with service in the Vietnam War. Cassius Clay converted to Islam, the ‘Religion of peace’[ii] at age 20 after the war had began, and then changed his name to Muhammad Ali. A short time after he converted, he was able to dodge the draft. He brought wonderful change to society, by showing free speech, and was really one of the first pacifists of his time. Ali redefined the nature of family, by showing the virtue of going through wives as he found true love, not just marrying the wrong woman and staying unhappy. He also showed his freedom by having additional children outside of those marriages. He is also a wonderful Black humanitarian, and strongly believes in helping his own community. He believes that all White people start conflicts against black people and such people should be stopped.[iii] Nobody wants negative people polluting our society; Muhammad Ali tried to change the world for the better.
“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”[iv] With that in mind, Muhammad Ali, tried to pay his rent. The 60 million dollar Muhammad Ali centre is non-profit organization in Kentucky.[v] The centre focuses on what Ali thought was important. It focuses on themes such as conviction, respect, giving, spirituality and dedication.[vi] He proves his giving, by personally traveling the continents; Ali gives food and medicine himself to many black humanitarian funds, and gives back to his own race. He helps children’s hospitals, Black street children and Black orphanages around the world, specifically to countries in Africa[vii]. In addition, without leaving his home, Ali has helped Black focus hospitals and soup kitchens in the Unites States. Nationally, he has helped the make a wish foundation, the Special Olympics,...
