ESSAY WRITING
INTRODUCTION
You should be able to present your idea in a well-organized, readable prose that is clearly and correctly written.
The process of writing
Writing has two top-down approach and bottom-up approach.
Top-up approach: assume you know want to say before you begin to write. Identify your subject and main points, establish your preview statement and plan your topic sentences.
Bottom-up approach: you don’t know what to say until you begin to write. You rely on pre-writing strategies such as brainstorming and free writing.
The five unconscious expectations of readers
1. To see paragraphs
2. To have the first sentence of the paragraph orient them to the content of the paragraph by identifying the topic.
3. To see coherent and unified paragraph units with each one exploring a single topic.
4. Connection of paragraphs according to some logical pattern that shows both internal and external coherence.
5. Introduced through the writers preview of the main points to be covered.
Readers overriding motive will be to obtain information quickly...
