Covered or Not Covered
Covered or Not Covered
In this paper I will discuss the objectives in this course that I felt were helpful, as well as the objectives that I found could have been better explored. This course has covered converged networks and the applications that provide these benefits. I will discuss which areas of this course I feel could have been improved as well as the areas I feel were well covered.
In our first week we discussed communications media. This TCO was very well covered as it was somewhat of an introduction to this course. I feel that this was a very good way to start the course by getting us familiar with communications and the benefits of them. In week two we were asked to research and discuss the uses of media gateways. I believe that this fit well as we were getting closer to comprehending convergence. I do, however, believe that in this area of the course we should have indulged more into communications so that we could better understand the base of convergence.
Weeks three and four were about voice over IP and video. I feel that these TCOs went well together as voice and video are very similar as they are real-time applications; therefore we did not lose our train of thought by jumping to another completely different category. One of the issues I found unsettling in this course were the OpNet iLabs as they were faulty most of the time and they did not have well written instructions that were efficient enough to explain what was to be done. I do believe that the video tutorials were helpful in explaining the steps of the lab; however, they were vague as well.
In week five we discussed SS7 and week six the course followed with Quality of Service (QoS). These two objectives followed each other well by showing that every type of protocol that is used is in place to improve the QoS. When discussing these topics I feel that more elaboration could have been explored; such as the protocols similar to SS7 and the history of...
