P1 Describe the type of business, purpose and ownership of two contrasting businesses
The two businesses I am going to be exploring and defining will be McDonalds and the National Health Service (NHS). They are two completely different businesses that have been founded for dissimilar means.
McDonalds

McDonalds operates on an international scale across the globe in more than one country and stretching further than national boundaries. It is also known as a multinational corporation as it manages production and delivers services in more than one country. It employs over 400,000 employees in all divisions of the organisation from farming to executive workers. Its golden arches logo is one of the most easily identifiable and recognisable symbols globally, as well as in the food retailing sector. It has more than 30,000 restaurants in 119 countries serving 46 million people a day. A multinational corporation usually has its management headquarters in one country. In McDonald’s case, their corporate headquarters titled ‘McDonald’s plaza’, is located in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA. It also then operates in several other countries, known as host countries. Some multinational companies are of huge proportion, and this is true in McDonald’s case, it has massive influence in local economies, as well as the world economy, and it plays an important role in international relations and globalisation. Many multinational corporations hold patents to prevent competitors from developing. McDonalds operates in developing countries mainly, where they provide technology, marketing aptitude and finance capital in return for a profitable market.
