REACTION PAPER
“Sa Liyab ng Libong Sulo”, everyone has their own versions of the story, and specifically our history. The documentary showed what happened and what is really stated on the side of our Native Ancestors and the Filipino people, this is the version of the story that I want to believe. The documentary started with the showing how the lives of native ancestors are, being free. Next is how our country slowly became colonized, and how the natives, and the Filipinos fought back to get our freedom. Then lastly it showed how our leaders lead our country to what it is today.
At first I already know that I only have common knowledge about the history, and after watching this, it enlightened me and opened my eyes on some facts about our country. It really proves that the history in the books is really limited and that it is not really the history.
In the documentary, our ancestors lived a good life in our country before with just their own communities. I think if they only had one good leader that can unite all of them, the Philippines can stop colonizers and would be a very good country to live in rich with resources. It is really sad that our ancestors just got fooled by the colonizers, some became slaves, some died and some just became puppets out of selfishness and fear of the colonizers. After the Filipinos won against the Spaniards all believed that it is the start of freedom, but again they are fooled and the Filipinos started to suffer more by the hands of the Americans. I think it is wrong to declare such a great achievement like Independence if it weren’t bestowed to us by our own power. It really angers me that our leaders turned a blind eye on what the American’s did to our country and its people, they played fool and just became puppets for the Americans.
