Why Photography?
I started using digital DSLR’s around 2009 while I was at college. I bought my first ever camera (Canon 400D) back in 2010 and ever since then I started taking photos of random objects around my house and the outcome was quite pleasing. I would always take it everywhere I went such as parties, church, out with friends etc. I remember when I started getting messages on facebook requesting to take photos at events such as parties, weddings, portraits etc, I was so shocked that people actually asked me to photograph for them, I never thought my work I uploaded on facebook was good enough for people to request my photographic skills which I thought was average at the time. This made me feel very confident to actually start taking photos for big events and as time went by I improved and people would drop me positive comments about my work. But after a while I wanted more, I knew there was more to photography than just taking photos at events, to be honest I found it quite boring, I wanted to know more, the history behind these camera, I wanted to go into depth with photography. Below is one of the first images I ever took for a party. I just placed my DSLR (Canon 400D) on the floor and switched to AV mode and set it to a long exposure and this was the outcome. I was trying to create something different as I got tired of taking photos of people.




Back in my college in 2009, I studied contextual where I had to research, examine and produce a version (of the artist or photographer) work; It broadened my understanding and creativity in contextual studies. I remember when I did some work on a particular photographer name Cindy Sherman who worked in series, photographing herself in a variety of costumes, she shoots alone in her studio, assuming numerous roles as author, director, make-up artist, hairstylist, wardrobe mistress and a model, which I found fun and practical to do.
