Democrats opposed this, which makes sense, as they support more gun control, while Republicans approved this of this poll. I think this poll overall accurately shows the public opinion. This issue was one of the issues in the Zimmerman case. In this case, while the public was divided, Zimmerman was ultimately acquitted, showing the slight bias to the support.
