Running Head: QRB SELF REFLECTION PAPER QRB Self Reflection Paper Joynicole Martinez University of Phoenix It is often said that developing a link between a student’s mind and real life problems that can be solved mathematically is a difficult, yet basic objective of many educators and mathematics teachers all over the world. It certainly was a challenge for me as a student, as I sat in Calculus and Physics at the undergraduate level. As an MBA student, my interest is in applying and employing analytical reasoning and thinking to solve business problems. To make mathematics a live, easier and more attractive subject, the learning outcomes would need to match my career and educational goals. Without a basic understanding of functions from the numerical, algebraic and graphical viewpoints, courses such as statistics and economics would be difficult to complete. Mathematical sciences such as these are based on the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data. It moves mathematics from being simply memorizing facts, to a tool used to predict and present data critical to the health and wellness of an organization. Fortunately, my undergraduate degree required mathematical science courses. I feel loosely prepared for the courses required for the MBA. However, as I began to think on items such as matrix addition, inversion and sinking funds, I realized the value in reviewing quantitative applications. It also became clear to me that my career path encourages and requires this type of information, and honing my skills can only move me closer to my goals. The QRB course will offer a chance to review and expand skills that make a fundamental connection between empirical observation and mathematical expression. Taking this course before courses such as Economics and Finance will ensure the structural knowledge is in place before advancement to the class, where such knowledge is assumed, and the lack of that knowledge would certainly be detrimental to completing...
