Summary EN
The present graduation thesis is entitled “Semantic and Pragmatic Value of Shortenings and Acronyms in the Language of Internet” and presents the analyses of the notion of shortenings and acronyms, their classifications, types, functions in the language of Internet. The chief purpose of the work is to describe and scrutinize the usage of shortenings and acronyms throughout the Internet.
The introduction explains the choice of the topic, importance, its aim, the main purpose, topicality, the novelty, theoretical and practical significance. The first (theoretical) part starts with a detailed description of shortenings and acronyms as linguistic phenomena and the analysis of their role in the Modern English. It includes the definitions and functions of shortenings and acronyms.
The second (practical) part of the research work presents the practical study of shortenings and acronyms, their functions, types and role in language of Internet. First, it begins with the general description of the Language of Internet. Then, it proceeds with the analysis of the abbreviation groups in different sources of Internet, such as: forums, blogs, chats, SMS, social web-sites and others. It is based also on the analysis of the modern dictionaries and scientific works of the famous linguists, who worked on the same topic....
