The religion that I have decided to study this semester is the Mormon religion. I went to church with him in California. The name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Mormon religion is actually based on Christianity and the Christian beliefs. My father is Mormon and has been trying to get me to come to church with him so that I can see what it is all about. Since we had to pick a religion for this class, I decided to go ahead and do my research on the Mormon religion.
The Mormon Church is called, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or LDS for short. Joseph Smith founded it in 1830 in Fayette, New York. Joseph Smith was concerned that there was not a true church. He wanted to insure that he was attending the right church so he went into a grove to pray about it. As an answer to his prayer, God and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him that there was not a true church established for him to attend. He was then told that he was the one who was going to re-establish the true church.
My father’s beliefs are very similar to every other Mormon that you may talk to. He believes that the LDS Church is the only church Of Jesus Christ that has been restored on the earth. He also believes that the church is running the way that it was back when Jesus Christ was alive.
The holidays that my father follows are the same as any other Christian religion. They believe in Christmas, and that it is to celebrate the birth of Christ. They also have Easter and believe that it is to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus after he died on the cross. They also partake in what they call Sacrament. Sacrament is when they partake of the body and blood of Jesus to remember that he died for our sins. The blood is represented by water and the body is represented by a bite of bread.
