Shakespeares King Henry

Shakespeares King Henry

Inspirational work! Inspired many writers of the time to write plays. King Henry wonders why he cannot sleep but a commonor such as a sea boy can. He has a good bed clean air its quiet as a mouse yet he can't sleep. The sea boy is in horrible conditions horrible weather yet hes sleeping like a baby. The King believes that sleep is mad at him and tries to bargain and find out why it won't let him sleep. The king is pathetic and pratically begs. As it progresses the King slowly loses his patience until he is pratically yelling at sleep. There are plenty of imagery diction and other figurative language devices in this work. King henry's state of mind is that of a troubled king. He is so worried about something that even in his perfect setting he cannot sleep. So we get the feeling that King Henry is greatly disturbed about something he did and is starting to feel the effects of guilt. In the beginning of the soliloquy he calls sleep natures soft nurse and as it progresses he uses harsher words to describe sleep. In his famous last line he says that " uneasy rests the head of the crown, " . The king could truely be insane. King Henry IV should really try and be a better king and better model to his people. If he cannot make the right decisions on how to rule his kingdom and feels guilt for it what does that mean for his country? It shows weakness and he should be stripped of his royalty and given to the dogs! And in his place a better truer king that can lead their country to greatness should take the stand.
