The article that I chose to read was an article by Richard Lakeman and Mary Fitzgerald called “Ethical Suicide Research: A Survey of Researchers. This article is about the research that is needed to better understand people that are suicidal, more specifically how to comprehend and react to those people. By connecting with suicidal people within research it can pose some ethical and practical issues. But with doing this there are ethical difficulties and problems that arise when obtaining approval in involving people that are suicidal in research have contributed to society’s current paucity of the research that explores the suicidal experience (Lakeman, 2009). To further look at these issues, and more a web based review of suicide researchers was created.
I believe that the research method that was used in this article was interpretive sociology. Interpretive sociology is the study that mainly focuses on the meanings that people can attach to their social world (Macionis, 2011). They have conducted an internet based survey to see and also get quality data on the perceptions of how many people understand their environments when it comes to suicide. The not only did this to observe the people that were suicidal but to also share in the world of significance. They also want to understand why they act the way that they do.
The research method that they used out of the four is survey. I believe this because they chose to do an internet based survey. They chose this because it was inexpensive as well as a well organized method to get the opinions and also the responses of the researchers and ethics committee members. I also believe that they used participant observation because of the fact that they participated in this particular survey to see the outcome of the research. It was also inexpensive and they did not have to pay people to do the survey. This survey allowed them to study suicidal behavior, learn the risks, and also learn how it can be managed....
