Events in Life can be Challenging
Taking time for my children and friends has always been important. At least once a week I would make certain to drive my oldest daughter and her best friend Gabby to soft ball practice. They would always laugh at me as I turned up the music when my favorite song played. Every Friday after school walking out the school building I could hear her voice loud saying hey Boogie I see you girl. I was late one particular Friday after school the buses had left so I didn’t get to see her.
The next morning the news was broke to us that Gabby had been brutally murder in her home. This was heart breaking to my entire family how someone so cold could kill such an innocent child of god. My daughter took it real hard this was her best friend and sister. The Stressor that I and my family experience was Death which is a major life stressor. However, when a person experiences extraordinary stress, the normal coping mechanisms are not enough.
As a result, when a person experiences a loss beyond the normal stresses and conflicts of life, they subconsciously begin to cycle through various methods of coping, trying to find one that works better. The thought of the way she was murder was very hard for my family to deal with even today. We have found ways to cope with the pain because by nature, everyone has multiple ways to cope with any problem. Whenever there is catastrophic change and pain, the mind treats the pain as a signal that the current methods of coping need to be changed. Persons who have catastrophic loss will go through all types of phases and methods of coping over and over again in their lives, almost randomly, until the pain decreases.
Today we just pray for Justice to be served and pray for the person who did this heart breaking crime. We read this poem almost daily to help us with the healing process:
