As a community we have to start now conserving energy to insure a future for all of us. Conserving energy is important because we will not always have the nonrenewable energy available if we keep using it the way we are today. Populations continue to increase therefore; energy consumption is on the rise. We need to conserve to explore other new energy alternatives that are available.
At this point we have available to use nonrenewable energy for our consumption. However, these fossil fuels: coal, oil, and natural gas cannot be reproduced and will be used up in time. By reducing consumption we can change the demand and lower emissions of C02 and other pollutants put into our atmosphere. Renewable energy is energy that is generated naturally. Sunlight, rain, wind, tides, and geothermal heat are all naturally replenished energy. Although these are natural resources they are not so easy to switch over to and costly to ways to get started for heating a home or fueling a car.
As members of this community we can start at home conserving energy today. Each one of us has to figure out in what ways we use the most energy and find ways to start conserving or minimizing our usage. Appliances in our homes use a lot of energy and they are simple place to start with conserving. Turing down the refrigerator and switching the energy save button on will help because the refrigerator uses about 20% of household energy. Heating and Cooling can be the next step to conserving energy. By adjusting thermostats to appropriate levels during certain seasons and changing air filters more often we can save energy all year round in our homes. Transportation is another way to conserve energy as well. We can start by using our vehicles less, by biking, walking, car pooling, or using mass transit to get to where we need to go. While these are just minor adjustments they will help tremendously if everyone participates and we get a grip on consumption now.
