A strike is a group’s refusal to work in a protest against low pay or bad work conditions. A strike is a very powerful weapon used by trade unions and other labor associations to get their demands accepted. Strikes can occur because of the following reasons: dissatisfaction with company policy, salary problems, and hours of work and rest intervals. When comparing the strike movements from the Great Depression of the 1929-33 to the current times, there is one big difference that stands out: the union worker party. Unions make sure that the voice of the workers is heard, as a whole, and this prevents strikes to a certain extent, because the Unions are in quick contact with the employers The short number of strikes during the current economic crisis can be credited to the fact that Unions have done there job by looking at the problems in the workplace and directly contact the employers regarding the issue. This has now ensured that issues such as fair wages are quickly resolved. Basically, having Unions has made lives of workers much better and this has declined the occurrence of strikes as compared to the depression. Another advantage that occurs in our daily lives is the installation of the human resource department in mid to large sized companies has ensured that there are fair wages being given to the workers, that worker is given promotions when they deserve it. The department also deals with the pensions, and bonuses along with any internal problem that the worker has in the workplace. This has declined the occurrence of strikes as compared to the depression as there is a specific entity which is responsible for caring about the issues regarding the workers. Just like unions, the department can directly inform the employer regarding any issues that have come to their attention, but the department actually has the authority to enact any measures that will end up benefiting the workers’ health and therefore their productivity.
