Mandip Task 3 '' Structuring Paragraphs Describe two different strategies you could use to help you understand how a paragraph is structured. Strategies used to help me understand paragraphs is to read an article, books or magazines and use post it notes to label and pick out the topic sentences from the paragraph. The paragraph will generally be introduced by a key sentence which contains a central idea of the paragraph. Another strategy used to help me understand paragraphs is to fill in the gaps with appropriate words to link the paragraphs. It is necessary to remember that the topic of one paragraph should follow logically from the topic of the last paragraph and should read on to the topic of the next paragraph. These strategies can be used by different learning styles, visual- seeing, auditory- listening and kinaesthetic '' doing. *Make reference to the key principles of text cohesion in your descri*ption. Cohesion refers to the way in which a text is connected together by various linguistic devices and techniques. Halliday and Hasan identified two types of cohesion: grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion. Grammatical cohesion Reference- pronouns can act as cohesive references as a text. I took the dog to the vet. It had been injured. Identification- - refers to a noun showing a cohesive link between something indefinite to something definite. A dog appeared out of the bush.
