Introduction
There are many things that can be compiled together to use as an action plan for student’s attending college. Included are the many resources that I have found that will be of much use to me through my time as a college student at University of Phoenix; I will reference to this document as my “Student Survival Guide” and will use it to help myself along my way.
Educational Resources
Some of the many things I learned about in educational resources were; the University of Phoenix Library. To use the library I recommend starting with a road map of the library using general references, specialized references, knowing how to use an effective key word search, browsing and knowing when to ask a librarian. All of these tools help in finding exactly what is being looked for. By having a road map of the library much time is saved because the knowledge of knowing were to go is already there.
There are many ways to use the internet as an effective resource too. Setting up a plan and strategy using critical thinking is a good way to start; also incorporating the search engines to guide through the searches can get through many of the references you don’t need. By applying the CARS method (Credibility, Accuracy, Reasonableness, Support) searches can be more effective and trusted.
Upholding Academic Honesty
Upholding academic honesty is a crucial value, and if not already possessed will be detrimental to education and career goals. The steps to take to ensure that academic honesty is being upheld are; use of the Plagiarism Checker through the Center of Writing Excellence, using the Center of Writing Excellence to have papers checked, noting sources as you read material, knowing the differences between quoting and paraphrasing and when to use quotations correctly, making sure that if you copy and paste information you cite it correctly and put it in your references.
