Advertisement and publicity are also two of the main factors that led to the development of the use of the internet. This has influenced the way goods are being sold the also the types of goods sold within the industry. However, purchases online have led to rapid raise to piracy which is a political/social issue. To stay ahead in the business HMV has updated the technology behind its digital downloads. Due to sales decreases and competition rises, HMV has launch of HMV’s music download service, Hmvdigital. Boasting a catalogue of 10m songs, hmvdigital is being billed as a genuine rival for the Apple iTunes digital download crown. Since March this year the in progress of the hmvdigital.com has been in beta testing since. To undertake their rival Itunes, HMVdigital customers are permitted to a limit number of free download, and top 40chart single are downloadable as low as 40p per track. and customers can directly download music to their pc without installing the HMV music management software.(GURDIAN 2011)
