Watching television has been a necessity for several people. Besides it is used for information, television is also used for recreation. Yet, however, most of television programs are not useful, especially for children. They can attract viewer interest including children. This is not wasted by television side to boost popularity of their program. Consequently, it causes bad effect for children such as making children lazy to study, being a passive, and depraving a child.
A child who is watching television and feel interest with the program will endure long sitting in front of television. That program makes him addicted and causes him lazy to study. So, it is influencing their academic. The non-effective of the presenting time and less explicit of parents control are the cause. For instance, the cartoons presenting time may be almost 1-2 hours at children’s study time. Research of Milton Chen, Ph.D. (2002), an expert’s on children’s TV shows in America, describes the amount of time that passed by American children for watching TV. On average, they watch about four hours in a day, 28 hours in a week, 1.400 hours in a year. The parents can’t change its presenting time, but they can limit watching time their children. Watching television in oftentimes makes them tired so that lazy to study. Parents should be explicit to their children when they can watch television and when they have to study.
