MEMO TO: First-Level Managers
FROM: Amanda Walker – Midlevel Sales Manager
SUBJECT: Manager Behavior
Also, as managers you need to learn how to deal with the diversity that we will have throughout the company after the merger. There are 10 classifications that can help you in assessing the different cultures that we may come across and the different people we will encounter. These classifications consist of sense of self and space, dress and appearance, food and feeding habits, communication and languages, time and time consciousness, relationships, values and norms, beliefs and attitudes, work motivation and practices, and mental processes and learning. It is very important to research the different cultures that we will be interacting with. Some of our new employees have very different beliefs and values. We need to learn these differences so we do not offend any of them. The simplest thing such as communication, whether it be verbal or non-verbal could compromise this merger. We need to be able to understand each other and work together. Please look at each of these classifications and take notes on what these differences could be.
I expect my managers to support this merger in every way possible. Gain the trust of your employees and keep a positive attitude. Our employees look up to you. We need to keep our productivity up during this time and they need their managers help in doing that.
