Shakespeare wrote Julius Caesar , set in Ancient Rome during 1599 CE. Julius Caesar is about the conspirators, or members of the Senate, assassinating the to-be emperor, Julius Caesar, because they wanted to prevent a man of such ambition from ruling Rome. The book includes the devastating events which occur in result of the murder. Shakespeare discusses the role of fate and free will in a person's life through the characters of Caesar, Cassius, and Brutus. While Cassius and Brutus relate to the idea of fate, Caesar's idea is a little more complex and has to do with free-will.
Caesar conveys a clear belief that he has the power to shape his own destiny. He felt that after Calphurnia had her dream that he was going to be murdered, he wasn't going to go to the Senate to put her mind at ease. The members of the senate, were jealous and even though he had put the crown by 3 times they didn't care, they saw that it got harder for him to do it every time and they were afraid that he would accept it the next time that he was offered. Julius Caesar had the love of the people and was ready to make Rome so much better but the men that Caesar that loved him were so against him. They felt that he was going to ruin everything and had to be stopped. Caesar was a man of many accomplishments and he knew this, he chose this for himself. Caesar always knew what he wanted and worked extra hard to get it. Caesar believed in free-will. He did what he wanted and knew exactly the consequences of his actions.
