Sigmund Freud was a well known psychologist, with a theory that is unviversal and one that everyone may be able to relate to. Some may dislike his theory and some may think its the greatest theory in the world, but this theory is present in alot of the scenes in the movie "Big Fish". There are many times where you can take Freuds theory and relate it to what is going on in the movie. From sex, to the oepidal complex, to condensation and so forward you can relate it to the movie. Freud basis his theory on the ID,(which is a humans darkest and deepest desires) the Ego, (a humans reality principle) and the Superego (a drive that works with the ego to control the Id) all three of these are presented through out the movie as well. During the movie different characters and different symbols, symbolize different things and meanings. Certain things that can be identified through out the movie are also the Oepidal complex, Displacement, Condensation, literature. Freuds theory is universal and important because it introduces us to the different stages we undergo through out our development to be the ideal human figure. Sex is first presented while Edward goes through the dirty valley and faces many obstacles but ends up going through a spider web in to good land which is something similar to heaven. From a Freud perspective this would mean it took him a lot of effort to lose his virginity but he accomplished the task. Going through the valley would symbolize him taking small steps such as seducing the girl, and also touching different body parts in order to have her sexual hormones running, Edward then going through the spider web would symbolize him entering the vagina.
