Many individuals fail to realize the importance of achieving a college degree because they are content with a high school diploma. Earning a college degree is imperative because it broadens the range of job opportunities, increases lifetime earnings, and promotes a healthy society. In the United States, the unemployment rate has increased astronomically over the past couple of years; as a result there is more competition over available jobs. Many companies would rather hire a college graduate than an individual with a high school diploma. A college degree helps facilitate success in one’s life, while others with a high school diploma are usually unsuccessful striving for that same prosperity.
Primarily, the purpose of gaining a college degree is to earn a good job that one is comfortable with. Many people that only received a high school diploma work at undesirable jobs, such as fast-food restaurants and grocery stores. A college degree is the key that will open doors to more opportunities, and will allow a person to decide where he or she would like to work. Working is not as strenuous when one enjoys his or her occupation. Many individuals would love to get paid to do a job they take pleasure in doing.
Also, a college degree has the capability of increasing one’s lifetime earnings as compared to a high school diploma. There are many people who did not pursue a college education and as a result they make minimum wage. In America today, the quality of life of a person making minimum wage is very low compared to a college graduate making well over that margin. Going beyond a bachelors and striving for a higher college degree, such as a masters or doctorate, results in an even higher salary. The price of gas, groceries, and other items are exponentially raising and minimum wage is barely enough meet the standards of daily living. Pursuing a college education is imperative because it allows one to earn more money and enjoy the finer things in life.
