The Man

Some of the important people in the war of 1812 included Isaac Brook. Isaac Brook was important because he was a British general in Canada who made over 2,000 U.S. troops surrender to the British in three hours. The fall of Fort Detroit had a great effect in Upper Canada. Not only did it allow Brook to arm his military units with captured American weapons, but it also got support for the British cause and established Brock's reputation as a powerful soldier and leader. Some of the causes that lead up to the war of 1812 was impressments and the Embargo Act. An impressments is the British was of capturing sailors from other countries and recruiting them on their own ship. The Embargo Act was Thomas Jeffersons response to the British activites like the Chesapeake incident intended to hurt Britian and France, who were both interfering in U.S. shipping which was repealed on march 1st 1814. One result of the 1812 war was the Bladensburg battle which opened the way for the British to march to Washington; which
they burned down.
