The massacre of Karbala
This is the standard interpretation of karbala in sunni islam, ibn kathir ibn hajar and most sunni scholars agree with it.
Hussein was born less than one year before Hassan. They were greatly praised by Rasululah (SAW).
Hussein was born in madina and stayed there until Ali moved to Kufa, he moved with him, he witnessed Siffin and Jamal (bloody civil war between sahabah, in which more muslims lost lives than all the muslims before this time). Ali was then assassinated by the khawarij. Hassan was then given allegiance by the people of kufa to be khalifah while muawiywa was given allegiance by people of alsham. Muawiya ibn abi sufyan was from bani umayya, the tribe of abu sufyan. For the first time in Islamic history there was two khalifahs. They were about to go to war again but Hassan resigned. Both brothers then moved to madina until death of muawiya.
We as ahlul sunnah believe Hassan was more entitled to khilafah because of his righteousness. The people of kufa were not happy about this but Hassan quelled them down. Hussayn was not happy with his brother’s decision and out of his respect for his bro he did nothing while his bro was alive.
After the death of muawiya, his son yazeed became khalifah. Muawiya nominated his son yazed forkhilafa, we believe there were more people at the time who were much more suitable for khilafah.
We have the right to not agree with muawiyas decision.

After muawiya dies, the governor of madina, knowing hussayn, calls him to his house and asks for the oath of allegiance but hassein refused, and after allot of pressure, Hussein just told...
