The massacre of Karbala
This is the standard interpretation of karbala in sunni islam, ibn kathir ibn hajar and most sunni scholars agree with it.
Hussein was born less than one year before Hassan. They were greatly praised by Rasululah (SAW).
Hussein was born in madina and stayed there until Ali moved to Kufa, he moved with him, he witnessed Siffin and Jamal (bloody civil war between sahabah, in which more muslims lost lives than all the muslims before this time). Ali was then assassinated by the khawarij. Hassan was then given allegiance by the people of kufa to be khalifah while muawiywa was given allegiance by people of alsham.
