“Language is arguably the most important component of culture because language enables people in every society to share their experiences, concerns, and beliefs, in the past and in the present, and communicate theses to the next generation. Therefore, in order to know ones culture ones ought to know their language because it is impossible to understand the subtle nuances and deep meanings of another. Language makes communication of infinite meanings possible by employing sounds or gestures that, when combined according to certain rules, result in meanings intelligible to all speakers.” ( Haviland, Fedorak, Lee, Pg 117). In our daily life vocabulary plays an important role, it not only reflects our opinion and interests, but also our culture. The better vocabulary we have, the easier it will be for us to interact and convey our emotions and messages clearly and fluently. No matter how wide or better vocabulary and language one has, it changes from place to place and time to time. For instance, if we are in class we tend to speak formally and our vocabulary is limited and controlled, and the language is spoken that every one can understand. On the other hand, we have more freedom while we are with our family or in a shopping centre. Our vocabulary tends to increase and the language is spoken that makes us and others feel more comfortable, because we are more likely to speak cultural as well as the local language, which includes more words. For example, 5 yrs ago we used slang and other dialects to communicate, but now it’s more academic and formal, more educational based.
