The Outcast

Thomas came from a poor family. His mother had been unemployed for about five years, and his father had been made redundant. They lived in a run-down flat, in a very rough area. Thomas was of average height, about nine stone and he didn't look like the other boys at his age. He was thirteen.
The Rogers family moved to their new flat on a Friday morning. They had to move out of their old house because they simply could not afford the mortgage. Thomas was nervous about his first day at his new school. He knew straight away he probably wouldn't fit in. He had already seen some of the people who would be in his year around where he lived. Whenever he looked at them, and caught them looking back at him, he could tell they did not like him.
After a weekend of pure boredom, Monday morning arrived. David, Thomas' dad had just woke Thomas up. He got up, had a shower, got dressed and left the flat. He did not eat breakfast, because he was he was too nervous. He was dreading what his first day would bring. He felt both worried, and scared. About halfway through his journey to school, he ran into a group of teenagers, roughly, about the same age as him. He thought he should just walk past them and say nothing. The teenagers kept staring at him, as if he was from another planet. He thought his plan had worked, as he managed to walk past them, but, once he had passed them, they got up and started to follow him. Thomas could hear their footsteps behind him. He began to panic, and started to pick up the pace. He turned to go through a lane, the lane which you had to go through to get to school. Halfway down the lane, two of the boys grabbed Thomas, and pushed him up against a wall. They kept hitting him, telling him that his kind wasn't welcome here. The, "head" of the group, Mark, told him to go home and have a shower, as he stunk. After a few more blows to the stomach, they threw him down and walked away as if nothing had happened.
